HTML5 vs Flash - Adobe Raises The White Flag

As related to our previous post, here’s another interesting news about HTML5 and why we are confident about our shift in focus toward it. It all comes down to functionality - and we’ve seen more of that with HTML5 earlier on. Thanks to Steve Jobs, users are enlightened about Adobe’s Flash player as an unnecessary video tool for today’s mobile devices.

How HTML5 Won Over Flash In Mobile Video

Adobe have seen just how HTML5 was gradually taking over the functionality of Flash, and so their company decided to discontinue the development of Flash mobile-browser versions. Admittedly, Adobe have lost their war against HTML5.

The Adobe company has decided to use its resources elsewhere instead of pursuing the apparent failure in the mobile video player industry. In fact, they have announced that they will no longer be building any further version of Flash for mobile devices - thus, making Flash Player 11.1 a legend.

It is clear that HTML5 has set the new standard when it comes to showing videos on the web. Before HTML5 became the trend, videos were shown using a plug-in - which became a hassle down the line as different browsers have varying plug-ins needed.

But HTML5 made things simpler for everyone by allowing the video element to be integrated on a web page. This means that regardless of your browser type, you would still be able to watch a video online through HTML5.

HTML5 And The Future

At the end of the day, it wasn’t only HTML5 that Adobe was competing with - but Apple, as well. When Steve Jobs supported iPad and iPhone products with HTML5, he badly crippled the Flash industry along the way. And that’s when the war got tougher for Adobe.

Not all websites are able to keep up with HTML5 video features though, which means Flash still comes in handy at the moment. But with the slowly-but-surely adaptation of the mobile devices other than Apple's, eventually HTML5 will be king of not just mobile video. Expect it to rocket launch sooner or later.

It’s only a matter of time before Flash becomes history, and HTML5 starts owning the future. Even Adobe themselves can’t argue with that.
